At their first live performance, it's not unbelievable that Chicago's Rocket Miner was mistaken for Russian Circles. Both bands deliver devastating distortion and ear-ringing quakes of sound. Where Russian Circles take darker turns and incorporate metal riffing, however, Rocket Miner's songs tend to blossom in slow-motion, like flowers blooming, giving plenty of time for their sweeping grandeur. ... more
